A Fun Gift from the Bride to Her Maids: Nail Polish!

8772269823_8b52f2a5a4_zMother of the Bride, at some point in the days or weeks preceding the wedding, here’s a fun gift idea for the bride to give her bridesmaids—nail polish! And not just any nail polish, but nail polish in the color of their dresses or perhaps their bouquets. Fun and pretty, too, huh?

Not only will your daughter’s maids appreciate this special treat, but it will help their overall Wedding Day look come together as well. Variety can look fun and festive on Wedding Day, but uniformity has a special beauty, too.

And just think of the neat photos that might result if their nails are all done in the same color. The photographer, in fact, could take a few shots with their hands in mind. Pretty shots with their bouquets, pops of the same color as they help the bride get into her gown, and even a shot specifically showing off their hands. And if they use the polish on their toes as well, you’ve got more cute photo possibilities ahead!

You or the bride might even want to take the gift of nail polish a step further and surprise the bridesmaids with a professional manicure and have them take their polish to the salon (would probably be a good idea to have purchased the polish there.) This extra treat is entirely optional, of course, but it could be a fun outing for all the girls—bride included—a couple of days before the wedding.

Worth suggesting to the bride, MOB? I think so! And why not get your nails done, too, while the girls are at it? Go ahead—have some fun and treat yourself!

A Wedding Favor That Pampers: Beigetone Soaps!

XPRO8554-2 (2)Mother of the Bride, if your daughter loves all-natural products or likes to pamper herself with luxurious soaps, have I got the perfect wedding favor for you to suggest to her!

Beigetone Soaps are fragrant, all-natural soap products handmade by my friend Nancy Douglas.  They come in 1 oz or 5 oz bars and a variety of luscious scents. Most are a creamy treat for the skin while others offer exfoliant action. Nancy offers a few other specialty items as well. Pop over to Beigetone Soaps on Etsy to see her current inventory. I guarantee you’ll be intrigued by what you see.

So why not treat your guests to a little gift from Beigetone Soaps, MOB? Nancy’s Wrapped Favors are 1 oz hotel size bars that last for several days. They are perfect for travel and also work beautifully as sachets and room fresheners. She will personalize the wrapper with the message of your choice as long as it fits comfortably on the label. You could feature a message of congratulations (as seen in the photos above and below), or the name of the bride and groom and the date of the wedding would be a perfect choice, too.

For wedding and other party favors, Nancy asks that you allow four weeks for delivery. Since these are custom orders, time has to be allowed for the soap to cure, labels to be made, and the bars to be wrapped and mailed.

Beigetone Soaps Wrapped Favors will definitely tickle your wedding guests’ favor fancy, MOB. Suggest them to your sweet girl—and then pamper yourself with a few before the big day!XPRO8522-2 (2)

Midweek Morsel: “Guard” Theme Word Applied Again

5527612006_402a52924f_z

“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3

Now that we’re into October—the last quarter of 2014 (yikes!)—what better time to consider our theme words one last time. As with New Year’s resolutions, it can be easy to choose a theme word for the year, and then let it slip into oblivion as the year rolls by. Let’s not do that this year. Let’s keep applying our theme words.

Guard has been my theme word for 2014. When I chose it, I knew one of its applications could relate to my tongue—to guarding the words that come out of my mouth. The verse above is the perfect exhortation from scripture to reinforce the need to actively guard the words that we say.

Other important applications of guard have taken center stage for me so far this year, but I don’t want to neglect applying guard to my mouth as well. To be honest, guarding my tongue has been important to me for years, but I’m oh-so-far from mastering that small part of my body that James called “a fire” and “a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” (James 3:6,8) In fact, I’ve probably blown it as many times as I’ve controlled it.

Would you want to join me in asking God to help us by setting that guard over our mouths? We need the Holy Spirit keeping watch over our lips, don’t we? Let’s do our best to heed his warnings.

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14

Polka Dot Nails for the Bridesmaids!

4043766147_8ecd601798

Mother of the Bride, here’s a fun idea for your daughter’s bridesmaids—polka dot nails! It might not be something the bride herself wants to do if she wants to go classic and not have her nails draw attention away from her dress or her bouquet, but this could be super fun and cute for the rest of the girls to do if it’s done tastefully.

Other design elements to the manicure could be added as well—just the tips in polka dots, a glitter line of some sort, different designs on different fingers, etc. I’ll include a few photos below to give you some ideas.

Another thought—polka dot manicures for all the girls could be a special gift from you, the MOB, to all the bridesmaids as the bride gets her nails done, too. You could do this in lieu of a bridesmaids luncheon if you’d like. What a fun outing for the bride and her best girls as they get ready to celebrate the big day. Go for it, MOB—they will love you for it!
