Summer Photo Fun: Artist Jeneal Rogers

As promised in Summer Photo Fun Is Back, I have some special treats lined up for you over the next few weeks, and the first one is today!

It is my great pleasure to introduce you to Jeneal Rogers, a talented artist and my dear friend. We’ve been friends for around twenty-five years now, but we haven’t lived in the same community for nearly twenty of that. We’ve just worked at keeping our friendship close.

Jeneal is a writer as well as an artist, though she’s been more active in art than writing the past few years. She was one of my encouragers early in my writing career and was even my critique partner for a time. Her story “An Old Fashioned Kind of Gal” took first place in the Armchair Interviews Second Anniversary Contest, and she was also awarded first place in the Siloam Springs Writers Christmas story competition for her children’s Bible story “God’s Great News.”

Today we’re focusing on her art, though. Jeneal enjoys creating art in a variety of styles and mediums. She has worked in pencils, charcoals, pastels, polymer clay and oils, to name a few. Many of her current works are in acrylics, and watercolor is a favorite. She is an amateur photographer.

She enjoys painting everything from fanciful abstracts to realistic portraits. Besides portraits, she has done work by commission for an interior designer, a corporate housing company, and several writers.

A Missouri native, Jeneal was born in Poplar Bluff and grew up in the small town of Piedmont. She moved away from the area about thirty years ago, and lived in various places with her husband and two children. Recently she “came home” to S.E.MO and now resides in Jackson.

Enjoy Jeneal’s creations below and then check out her website at www.expressionsbyjeneal.com to see more of her work!

Thanks, Jeneal, for sharing your work with us!

“and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts — to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship.” Exodus 31:3-5

  1. By the way, I think my favorite of this group is Flower Girl. Love the colors, and it’s just so sweet. Kind of reminds me of my girls :)

  2. What beautiful art work. All of the pictures are amazing, but the little Flower Girl just melted my heart.

  3. Oh, I was going to say I loved the Flower Girl one too!! So beautiful and sweet.

I remember going to one of Jeneal’s art shows and just loving everything!

  4. The photos are stunning! I looked at Jeneal’s photo page and was just impressed beyond all words. There is nothing amateur about Jeneal’s photography at all! The only reason to use the word “amateur” in front of photography would be because perhaps she isn’t selling them. . .?

  5. I love them all but the flower girl makes me pause to see the little girl’s innocence and interest nature.
    Very nice art.
    Thanks!

  6. Love how so many of you love the flower girl painting, too. I knew I had good taste in art! :)

Jana, I’m not sure if Jeneal sells her photos or not. I’ll let her answer that question. She’s in the middle of getting a house ready to sell so may not be able to check for comments too often, but I’m sure she’ll have an answer for us at some point. So glad you checked out her site!

  7. Very Nice Work.
The Morning After piece reminds me of the movie LadyHawke.

  8. Thanks for the nice comments. I’m so glad you enjoy my work Actually, I am an amateur photographer because I have never sold any, or even tried to sell them. I would love to start, though.

  9. Oh such beautiful pictures and how great that you have remained friends all of these years! That’s awesome!

  10. Hi Cheryl,

Fun to stop by your site and browse photos, seeing what you have been up to.

Your friend’s art, and your daughter’s desserts look wonderful.

  11. Alicia and Jennifer, so glad you enjoyed seeing some of Jeneal’s art. And Alicia, you’re so right — long-time friendships are indeed awesome. We are both blessed for sure!

  12. It would be impossible to pick my favorite. They’re all awesome!

But what I want to know is, how come one person got all that talent? Writing, painting, AND photography? Not fair! :-)

  13. Well Vonda, we all have our own talents. I happen to know you are a talented writer, yourself. And I have heard you speak to a crowd of people. Very encouraging, informative, and funny. Often, when I’m tempted to overreact to some of life’s problems, I remember you telling about a time when you were in the midst of a “mini breakdown” as I call it, and thought, “Gee, this would make a great story!” Very funny.

Besides, you should hear me try to sing.

  14. These are STUNNING. I am in awe. The first two were my favorites–flower girl especially.

  15. And your photography is not amateur at all!! It’s beautiful!!!

  16. Emily, so glad you got to see Jeneal’s work! She is amazing, huh?

Jeneal, Emily (Elastagirl) is a professional photographer, and I will be featuring her work later today. Her comment on your photography is a real compliment!
