Date Night Giveaway!

Happy February to all! How about an extra-fun giveaway just in time for Valentine’s Day? You might want to grab your sweetie so you can both sign up for a chance to win my night-on-the-town Date Night Giveaway!

That’s right — a night on the town! Well, at least a night at the movies :) The winner will receive a $20 gift card to his or her favorite movie theater chain (Cinemark, AMC, etc). Just leave a comment on this post by noon (CST) February 11th and tell me the name of the movie you saw on your very first movie date with your spouse or current significant other. Can’t remember the first one? That’s okay — just tell me the earliest one you can recall. If you don’t happen to have a significant other right now, leave the name of the first movie you ever remember seeing at a theater. If I don’t know you personally, be sure to include your email address as well.

I’ll kick it off. The first movie I ever saw with Don happened to be our first date as well. We saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Anybody remember that one? What a long time ago — 1974 to be exact. We still love going to the movies together, but now we have to buy snacks just to keep Don awake :)

Can’t wait to hear about your first movie dates with your current guys or gals. Also can’t wait to play Cupid and help someone have a great date night with his or her sweetie!

*Family update: There have been a few improvements with my mother-in-law’s health this week, but the long-term outlook concerning her renal failure is still not good. Since the hospital has told us they must dismiss her soon (you know how insurance goes…), we are now in the difficult days of care option decisions. We treasure your prayers…

  2. Titanic. I’m not kidding. Thank goodness our ending hasn’t been so tragic. Lovely, indeed, but not sunk into the abyss.

    Great idea.

  3. The 1st movie was in 1981 – Raiders of the Lost Ark…

I pray for your husband, you and your family to have wisdom and clarity as you make decisions…

  4. Our first movie date was Garden State, but we’ve seen lots of movies together. I’m a “movie-talker” and have been trying to talk less during movies since Shawn and I started going to the movies together!

  5. Praying for you all as you make difficult decisions; praying that God will make the path smooth for you . . .

I remember when Mark and I were dating, we saw Dances with Wolves. Or was that the first year we were married? Gosh, I can’t remember that far back! We did go to a movie the night he asked me to marry him. But I had a feeling he was going to pop the question, and I was very distracted! I don’t remember a thing about the movie. Not a single thing. :-)

  6. Wes and I saw “Lord of the Rings”. I don’t know if it is the first one we went to together, but it is the first one I remember.

Off topic, I’ve been thinking about your mother-in-law alot. She lives at the same place as my great-grandmother, and I see her room whenever I make it back to C-ville. I hope you guys are all holding up OK.

  7. Your family is in my prayers. Keep strong.

  8. I’m loving watching all these movies roll in from your early dating days! I must admit I’m feeling old, though, since mine predates all those already listed. Good grief! :)

  9. Dear Lord,

Provide Cheryl and her family with wisdom and compassion. Open the right doors, Lord. Show them clearly how they are to honor Don’s mother. Give them the resources they need to take care of her.

Thank You, Lord, for having the answer already prepared and on its way.

    Grace & Peace,
    Jean

  10. Okay..its kinda funny you ask. My husband and I have known each other since high school but only started dating around 6 years ago.
Well when he realized he was kinda “sweet” on me…he came to town for a visit. He brought with him a scary movie (he knew I would sit close if the movie was scary). Well it worked, we watched “Darkness Falls”, we sat close, we are now married!! Of course that is the VERY short version!! We did just celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary with Dinner and a Movie!!
    What a fun giveaway!!

  11. I can’t remember what it was. Just remember it wasn’t very good. After the movie we went to Jim’s steak house. It was a double date with Lynn & Diane I think.

  12. Perhaps Kung Fu Panda? I’m pretty sure there was one before that, and we didn’t go to the theater intending to see that, but the other show was sold out…it was a cute show, though!

  13. Gosh, I can’t remember the first movie we saw together. I do remember seeing Bird on a Wire for our 2nd anniversary in 1990.

  14. Ours was Star Wars… the first time it came out. It was the first time the theaters back home had surround sound and we were amazed to hear the “speeders” zipping past us. The down side? Jim drove his little Mazda home like it WAS a speeder.

  15. This is easy–Three Bites of the Apple, back in 1967. We’ve now been married almost 40 years!;-)

Praying God’s blessing on you as you seek to please Him!

  16. Dave & I saw Double Jeopardy with Tommy Lee Jones & Ashley Judd. It was our first date and first date movie. He brought me flowers, and tried to open my door for me. I just hadn’t had anyone do that for so long, I didn’t give him enough time.

  17. Thanks for the chance to enter!! Our first movie was back when we were in high school. We went to see E.T.!! My hubby is my high school sweetheart and I am so thankful for him.

  18. Our first move that I can remember was “Straight Talk” with Dolly Parton.

I believe you and I line in the same State?

  19. Angel S., so glad you visited my blog and want to enter the contest. Since I don’t know you and your blogger profile doesn’t list your email address, you need to leave another comment with your email address in order to be entered into the contest. Hope you check here again — would hate for you to miss the chance!

  20. The first movie Kristin and I saw by ourselves for the first time prior to officially dating was The Ladykillers with Tom Hanks (Coen brothers’ remake attempt of the 1955 film). Don’t waste your time.

  21. Our first date and first movie was Anna and the King. I bought Aaron AMC and Hard Rock Cafe gift cards for a graduation present and he used them to take me on our first date!

  22. We saw “Ever After” and had Italian food on our first date. That was the beginning of our happily ever after. :)

  23. This was easy since a movie was my actual first “date” with my husband- the movie was ET!
