Give Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving week to all of you! This the perfect week for—you guessed it—giving thanks. No matter what is going on in our lives, there’s always something to be thankful for, isn’t there?

Won’t you join me in listing five things (or one or two or however many you want!) that you’re especially grateful for this year? As we do so, let’s be sure to praise and thank God, for he is ultimately the giver of all our blessings.

Here are my five today. I’m especially thankful for:

  1. The “Tender Mercies” God surrounded us with during the recent loss of my mom.
  2. My loving family and the amazing reunion we got to enjoy together this summer.
  3. Getting to attend a top-notch writers conference in Michigan with my long-time friend Jeneal.
  4. Our son-in-law Jake graduated from law school and passed the bar exam—a goal both he and our daughter Kelli have worked hard to achieve over the past three years.
  5. My mom’s life of eighty years and the blessing it was to be her daughter. She loved her family, and we loved her and will miss her every day.

Okay, I said five, but I must add one more—every loving word and gesture extended to me and my family during the loss of my mom. Thank you, Lord, for all of these blessings. With all that I am, I thank you!

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17

  1. Beautiful reminder of His blessing, even in the midst of our heartache and pain. Thank you, Cheryl!

This Thanksgiving I am especially thankful for memories. Memories that grow more precious with time. Cheryl, I know you will understand this since your mother recently went to heaven, and my sister and brother inlaw also went to heaven this year and this week I have just been flooded with memories of them, even special Thanksgiving memories, I have swung back and forth from crying to smiling in remembrance. I am so thankful for these memories…

This year my husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary so I am very thankful this year for 30 years with the man God gave me 30 years ago!

I am thankful for my family and that all of us are also in God’s family! So thankful for His free gift of Salvation and the life I have in Christ!

    • Kathy, thanks so much for sharing. Getting through these first holidays without our loved ones is going to be tough, isn’t it? I’m thankful for memories, too — the fruit of having spent so many wonderful times together. Like you said, they bring joy as well as tears. May God continue to comfort you in your loss.
Also, congrats on celebrating 30 years with your husband! May God bless you with 30 more!

  3. For health, for grace, for love, and for the flame of Jesus Christ that still burns within. Happy Thanksgiving, Cheryl, and many happy congrats for the new adventure you’re beginning with your writing!

    • Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Elaine — and thanks for the congrats on my new adventure, too. Very exciting. (I’ll post here on the blog about it next week.) I’m thankful for your friendship, Elaine!

  4. Cheryl – Blessings to you and your family this Thanksgiving. Your Mom will be smiling down on you from Heaven. This year I am thankful for my family, my growing, loving children, friends, memories and the joy I find in writing. Best wishes to you and yours,
    Mairéad

  5. Thankful this year for these 5: wise and kind online friends like you, the visit with my Chicago cousin in Feb. not knowing she would leave this earth in Sept., my Mom’s good health at 80, the cruise she took her family on over the summer, and progress on my book (in spite of probably not making my deadline of Dec. 31) None of this was anticipated last year – we never know what is coming, but we can count on God’s goodness.
