Wedding Day Checklist: Leftover Cake Containers

Mother of the Bride, here’s a short and sweet reminder for wedding day: Don’t forget containers for the leftover cake!

I know it’s hard to imagine that your guests might leave some of that wedding cake yumminess uneaten, but they sure do. Chances are you planned for more than enough cake because cake is one thing you don’t want to have in short supply at the reception. Plus, not everyone will eat cake. Hard to believe, but true.

Check with your wedding cake baker to see if he or she provides boxes for the leftovers, and if not, be sure to bring your own containers. Something like the inexpensive food storage containers above works perfectly. These are even better than boxes because they’re air tight.

So, MOB, add containers to your wedding day checklist. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get to indulge in extra bites as you pack the leftovers away. I call that a win!

A Chessboard Groom’s Cake!

Mother of the Bride, even though the main wedding cake is pretty much the star of the reception, the groom’s cake can shine too. Just tell your future son-in-law to get creative and come up with his dream groom’s cake idea, and you’ll find a baker who can pull it off when it comes time to find the cake designer/baker for the wedding.

One idea that might fit his personality is a chessboard. Doesn’t the chessboard cake above look sharp? Even the chess pieces can be part of the allure. The pieces here are made of white and dark chocolate. Now that’s the kind of chess game I’d like to play!

If your daughter’s honey is not a chess player, maybe he likes to play cards or checkers or some other board game. Maybe video games are his thing. If so, a good designer can come up with a cake inspired by just about any kind of game.

MOB, share this idea with the groom-to-be and see if it strikes a gaming-chord with him or perhaps inspires another idea. Encourage him to make his groom’s cake choice fun. And if he wants chocolate to play a part, you won’t complain, will you?!

Wedding Cake Inspiration: Coconut Cloud

Mother of the Bride, are you and your little-girl-turned-bride-to-be looking at wedding cakes yet? If so, you’ve probably discovered a plethora of choices. Allow me to add another one today.

The coconut cloud cake puts a whole new spin—and texture—to a traditional cake. Not only is it a perfect choice if the bride and groom are coconut lovers, but it will allow their cake to stand out as a little more unique than many others.

I especially like the coconut touch on an ombre cake (as pictured above.) The coconut shows up better when using a variety of colors, plus it allows the happy couple to incorporate one of their wedding colors if they so choose. The coconut cloud effect with the pink used in this cake almost gives a sunrise or sunset look, doesn’t it? Other colors will create other beautiful moods and images, but an all-white cake would look stunning as well.

Hope you and your daughter have fun, MOB, looking at all the cake possibilities out there. I know you’ll enjoy taste-testing when the time comes. My daughters and I certainly did!

A Groom’s Cake for the Wrestling Fan

Mother of the Bride, does your daughter’s intended happen to be a wrestling fan? If you’re not sure, check with him or your daughter pronto. You may have just found the perfect groom’s cake for him!

Show your son-in-law-to-be this WWE Wrestle Mania cake and see if he thinks it’s just right for his upcoming main event. If it rings his bell, you will score some big mother-in-law points. Woohoo, right?!

Even if this particular cake isn’t quite what he wants, it might spark an idea of what would indeed be the perfect cake for him. He may want a different wrestling ring or he might want a boxing ring or maybe even a race track. Who knows what neat new insight you’ll gain into your son-in-law to be!

So suggest away, MOB. You might just have a winner!

Wedding Cake Idea: A Gift Box!

Mother of the Bride, are you or your bride-to-be daughter on the hunt for a unique wedding cake idea? I might have just what you’re looking for today!

How about a wedding cake that looks like a gift box? The one pictured above is just one example of a multitude of possibilities. The fresh flowers make a lovely topper, but a ribbon and giant bow would look great too. As long as your cake designer coordinates the design with the wedding colors, the details can be up to you. And I’m willing to bet your designer will have some great ideas too, right?

Be sure to share this idea with your daughter, MOB. Who knows, the hunt just might be over!
