During this month of love and Valentine’s Day, let’s remember that Jesus thinks love is pretty great. The greatest, in fact.
When a Pharisee who was an expert in the law asked Jesus which commandment was the greatest, Jesus answered with two commandments, both of them hinging on love. This is what he had to say:
“Jesus replied: ‘”Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” (Matthew 22:37-40 NIV)
Not only at Valentine’s Day but all year long, let’s remember Jesus’s words about the greatest commandment. Let’s make sure our lives hinge on love.
