One Way to Pray Against Our Spiritual Enemy

2172772997_4d1ae0c7e1“‘A farmer went out to sow his seed . . . The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.’” Luke 8:5, 11-12 NIV (see also Matthew 13:19)

The enemy of our souls—that old serpent the devil—is a liar, a thief, and a con-artist who even at times masquerades as an angel of light. He employs whatever tactic it takes to defeat and discourage the children of God and to also keep unbelievers in darkness and chains.

This low-down thief can rob us of many things—peace, joy, our marriages and families, our good reputations and witness for the Lord, our time, our health, the list goes on. Scripture tells us he also snatches away the life-giving seed of God’s Word planted among those who do not yet understand and believe. Because of its eternal impact, this treachery is even more evil than stealing food from the starving.

One way we can fight for the souls of those who’ve had the Word planted in their lives is to pray against Satan’s tactic of snatching it away. This is not something I’ve been savvy to in the past and I need to be alert to future opportunities to do such battle in prayer.

Why not join me? Let’s take a mental inventory of those unbelievers we know who’ve recently had the Word planted in their lives.

Have we shared scripture or biblical truth with someone personally or through social media? Have we given financial gifts to help spread the good news among a particular group of people? Do we know of a mission team at work right now? Are we aware of any unbelievers who have recently sat in church and heard the Word preached? Have we heard prayer requests voiced for specific people who have been exposed to God’s Word lately?

Let’s pray against the enemy’s efforts to snatch the planted Word of God away from these precious people. Let’s ask God to place a hedge of protection around his planted Word so that the devil won’t steal the truth and hope of eternal life that it can bring. Let’s put up a fight. Let’s go to battle.

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.Ephesians 6:11 NIV

Midweek Morsel: Attracting Others to the Lord

“‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’” Zechariah 8:23b

Seekers—people who don’t yet have a relationship with God but do indeed want to know him—have been relying on believers since Old Testament times to help lead them to the one true God.

In the verse above, God declared through his prophet Zechariah that Gentiles (unbelievers) would come seeking him to entreat him and would flock to Jews (believers) to help them find him. Since they had heard that God was with the Jews, they naturally wanted to connect with Jewish people.

Today do seekers want to be with us because they’ve seen Christ in us or have heard that we walk with God? Have they heard that we are great men and women of faith or that we are prayer warriors? Are others attracted to us because of our godly lives and loving spirits? Do seekers want to connect with us?

Let’s be the aroma of Christ in this world that will draw others to the Lord!

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.” 2 Corinthians 2:14

A Christmas Gift for You

As we head into this final week leading up to Christmas, I’d like to share my annual Christmas poem with you. Just a little gift from me to you to help you celebrate the birth of our Lord. Believe it or not, this year marks thirty years that I’ve been including an original Christmas poem in my Christmas cards. I think that might make me old! :)

I’ll be taking a break from my normal blogging schedule. I plan to enjoy a wonderful Christmas with loved ones, and I pray that you will as well. I’ll post a photo or two in the next couple of weeks and will resume regular blogging in the new year. And now, I hope you’re blessed by “A Song of Christmas Praise”!

A Song of Christmas Praise

If I could write a Christmas song
It would be a song of praise,
An offering to my God and King
For this holy holiday.

From my heart the words would spring
My spirit would find the tune,
His glory from my lips would spill
Fresh love for Him would bloom.

For one joyous night so long ago
My Savior came to earth for me,
To rescue me from sin’s dark hold
To give me hope, to set me free.

And now I celebrate His birth
And if I could write a song,
It would be a song of Christmas praise
For to the Savior I belong!

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

*If you don’t have the joy of knowing Christ as your personal Savior, consider the following and accept Him today!

God loves you and wants you to have eternal life: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

But our sin stands in the way: “For all have sinned” (Rom. 3:23). “For the wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23

Jesus is the only way of salvation: “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6

Respond in faith and receive Jesus: “‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Rom. 10:13; “Whoever is thirsty, let him come”. Rev. 22:17

A Prayer To Receive Christ: Lord, thank You for loving me. I believe You died to pay for my sin and You were raised from the dead to give me eternal life. Forgive my sins and come into my life and be my Savior and Lord. Help me to follow You. Amen.

Merry Christmas to one and all!
