Wedding Favors: A Boxed Surprise

1460380375_95320fc06d_z

Mother of the Bride, you and your sweet girl may have more important things on your minds right now than wedding favors, but the topic will come up before you know it.

Why not be prepared and jot down favor ideas as you see them. Or if you haven’t done so yet, you could create a wedding board on Pinterest and save your ideas that way. I have one especially for Wedding Favors so you might want to pop over and take a look while it’s on your mind.

One fun idea is offering the guests a boxed surprise. Guests will enjoy discovering the treasure in their individual little gift boxes, and you could even add an additional element of surprise by having multiple possibilities. One guest might find dark chocolates filled with chocolate while another finds milk chocolates filled with raspberry cream, etc. Or you daughter might like to go with something entirely different from chocolate. It’s her party. She gets to choose!

I also love the little boxes pictured above with the various color ribbons and styles of applique rather than bows, but other sizes, shapes, and décor for boxes are available where you find wedding supplies. Again, the bride will have fun making this choice.

What do you think, MOB? Is this an idea your daughter might like? You’ll never know unless you ask—so ask away!

Midweek Morsel: Praying for Favor

1182294340_b7d81c13f7_z

“The king said to me, ‘What is it you want?’ Then I prayed to the God of heaven and I answered the king, ‘If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight . . .’” Nehemiah 2:4-5a

Sometimes we find ourselves having to speak or make an appeal in an important or even fearful situation. The stakes are high, our nerves taut. Right words are needed, but even more than that, favor is needed from the one to whom we’re speaking. What do we do?

In the Old Testament, we see what Nehemiah, cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, did in just such a situation. He had heard that the wall of Jerusalem was broken down and that his countrymen were in trouble. He wanted to go help, but he would need the king to look on him with favor and grant him leave to make the journey.

So what did Nehemiah do? He prayed and asked God to give him success and grant him favor with the king. Wisely, Nehemiah knew that God could open the king’s heart to his request. And wisely, Nehemiah prayed before he ever approached the king (Nehemiah 1:11), but as we see in the scripture above, he also whispered a prayer immediately before he made his appeal. Nehemiah relied on prayer, he relied on God.

Are any of us in need of favor today? Let’s remember Nehemiah and his dependence on God. Let’s bathe the situation in prayer.

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.” Proverbs 21:1

Wedding Favors That Grow: Tree Seedlings!

506856867_4c9dd3a205_z

Mother of the Bride, has your daughter considered tree seedlings as a wedding favor? If she would like to gift your guests with something that will last long beyond the wedding party, tree seedlings could be the perfect choice.

Here are three great reasons tree seedlings are great options as favors:

1) They are not only gifts for the guests but also gifts to the environment. You will feel good about providing them, and the guests will feel good when planting them.

2) A tree seedling can be incorporated into the wedding ceremony with a little creative thought. They can be quite symbolic and meaningful.

3) They can be planted in honor of the couple’s marriage and become a living reminder of their new family and the beautiful day they were united in marriage.

For more reasons to offer tree seedlings and for ideas and instruction on presentation, check out “Wedding Trees for Weddings and Corporate Events” on nurserymen.com . You’ll find lots of helpful information in the article.

And one more thing, MOB—tree seedlings can fit in especially well décor-wise with winter weddings, but they can be used year round. The article on nurserymen.com will explain what types of trees work best at which time of year.

So why not give a favor that grows? Everyone will enjoying going green!

Fall Wedding Favor Idea: Caramel Apples!

10744408954_cf3ba05c25_z

Mother of the Bride, are you and your daughter still looking for a favor idea for a fall wedding? If so, you came to the right place today—and just in time, too, since there’s no time to spare at this point, right?

Caramel apples can provide the perfect fun and yummy treat for your guests to take home—or eat right there at the party if they’re so inclined. As long as they’re wrapped in cellophane (as pictured above), they’ll stay mess-free until your happy apple-eaters decide to dig in.

Lots of fun options are possible with caramel apples, too.  Add a little pizzazz by rolling the apples in variety of toppings after they are dipped. Sprinkles, nuts, candy-pieces, coconut—whatever strikes the fancy of your bride-to-be and her sweetheart. They’ll be easier to wrap, too, if they’re dipped in something other than just caramel. I’ve even seen plain apples sitting atop a container of caramel and then wrapped together in cellophane. Tie the bags off with pretty color-appropriate ribbon and you’re set!

Nothing says a fall party like caramel apples, MOB, so why not suggest it to your daughter? Have fun at your fall wedding!
