February is almost upon us, dear readers, so that makes me think of Valentine’s Day—which, of course, makes me think of fun giveaways. I guess that’s a side effect of being a blogger, huh?

Since it’s still winter and since staying warm is still on everyone’s radar, I give you the Steaming Hot Valentine’s Day Giveaway! One lucky commenter will win a $15 gift card to Starbuck’s. The winner can splurge entirely on herself or stoke the fires of romance and treat his or her sweetie as well.

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post by 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 11th. If I don’t know you personally or cannot contact you via your website or blog, be sure to include your email address (such as cheryl at cherylbarker dot net).

It’s not required for the giveaway, but to make it more fun, tell me what your idea of a fun date night is. My hubby and I love to go to the movies. We get a big tub of popcorn, their biggest Pepsi or Coke, and a package of Peanut M&Ms (yes, those are for me!). We love getting into the spirit of it all—plus eating helps keep Don awake :)

And to help stoke the fires of your spiritual life, why not warm up with the verses below from the Word of God? Be blessed and be a blessing—in February and beyond!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3

Hey, Cheryl!!! Budg and I actually like museums and historical sites. Not that we don’t do movies to, but sometimes for something different we will go to a museum, art show, etc. We don’t always recognize all of the various artists but we do talk about what we like and why we like it.

    • Karen, thanks for stopping by and playing! :) Love your idea of going to museums and historical sites. We enjoy doing that, too, but seems to happen mostly when we’re on a vacation. Good idea for a date night, too, though!

Dave and I like to go to dinner and enjoy an uninterrupted conversation. It doesn’t matter how old your kids get, if they think you’re talking without them they still show up to see what’s going on so you got to get out of the house.

  3. Debbie Henry says

Movie and something to eat afterwards. Not on Valentines Day, though, too busy to go out to eat. Maybe going out for breakfast on Valentines Day would be a good option. We’ve done that a few times.

My hubby and I love to go to dinner and a movie in the cold months. When it’s nice, I take a book and hop on the golf cart to ride along with him. ❤️

  5. We like to go on motorcycle rides when the weather is nice!

  6. Kathy Seigel says

I have NEVER had any Starbuck products, so this would be a great opportunity to try something. Larry and I are on the go so much that my favorite “date” is to stay home and watch a movie; especially on a Cold, Winter Day!!

    • Kathy, thanks for coming over and joining in! I understand — sometimes the most appealing option (especially in winter) is staying in and having a quiet evening at home, isn’t it?

  7. Count me in! Of course, I love to go out to eat. I recently took my kids to see “Selma.” It had been a long time since I’ve been to the movies. I kept thinking to myself that Billy and I should do this again (minus the kids). So fun to go to the movies (especially with popcorn)!

    • Elaine, I want to see Selma, too. We have gotten behind in movie watching since Don was unable to go for quite a while and now we’ve got grandbabies to visit! :) And yes, go to the movies again — without the kids! :)

Well this valentines will be the not romantic date by far! We will be sailing out on a week long Carribean cruise on valentines this year! But usually anything that involves spending time together and being able to talk and have fun is a good date night for us!

  9. We love going to a movie and dinner out. This year will be different – home with our two newest Valentines!

    • Kristin, this will definitely be a Valentine’s Day for you and Shawn to remember. So much love added to your lives right now in the form of two adorable baby boys :) Next time I’m there I’ll babysit so you guys can go out and have some fun! :)

Hi Cheryl, I have just now read the comments for your “give away”. I am still smiling. I can tell that most of your friends are in your age group, and I am twice that age :). So now I need to add my thought….I well remember the days the others mention and it was a great phase of life. But I must say that my youthful Valentine is still my sweet heart and we still watch movies together, but preferably on our sofa and probably with a glass of red wine (good for our health :) . And I feel it is a gift from God that we both still feel we are each others Valentine and so grateful. So, our favorite date night is every single evening we are together. (if this is just too, too “sweet” feel free to edit. :) Norma, former Coffeyville girl.

    • Norma, first, thanks for acting like I’m only half your age :) I’m afraid you need to add several years to that! :) I absolutely love what you’ve said about you and Frank and your favorite date night being every single evening you are together. You two are an inspiration to us all!

  11. What a fun contest–thanks! Now that we’re not raising kids, paying for college, or saving for weddings, we’ve renewed our love of theater. We’ll usually go out to dinner, then head to one of our excellent local downtown theaters. But we’re also watching more movies at home now that we have Netflix. A good night is often a movie, popcorn, and our four-legged baby asleep between us on the sofa. What a blessing!

Blessings for you and your expanded family in this season of love…

    • Vonda, thanks so much for your good wishes for our family. We feel blessed indeed! And boy, do I know what you mean about getting past paying for college and weddings before feeling free to spend more on fun and dates, etc. Here’s to lots of movie night fun in the future! :)

  12. Love the idea of these give-aways. Sweet Blessings to you!

  13. Tonya Atkinson says

A fun date night would be dinner a movie and then a walk around the lake and then laying out on a blanket

  14. Dawn Monroe says

We enjoy karaoke or the movies.

  15. We love to go to the Cheesecake Factory and split the Red Velvet Cheesecake, it is huge and delicious, and we always split the Chicken Bellagio – our favorite entree which is also huge.

We have the entree first…and take the cheesecake home!

    • Kathy, Cheesecake Factory sounds like a great date night! I’m probably the only one on the world who doesn’t like cheesecake, but I sure love some of the other desserts there! :)

  16. I love to go hill walking with my husband – not at night, but during the day when the sun is shining. Sometimes if my husband has a weekday off, we head for the hills when the kids are in school. It’s lovely to talk and chat in the fresh air. A picnic after a hike is a perfect ending to a perfect date.

    • Mairéad, love your idea of spending time walking the hills together! Enjoying the great outdoors together is so much fun. We love to hike but usually only do it while on vacation when my hubby has more free time. Hope the weather gives you a chance to go hill walking again soon!

  17. Cheryl, I recently found your site and am so happy I did. Your inspirational messages are so heartwarming and encouraging to me and I look forward to many more… Date night with my loved one is going out for a relaxing supper or simply dining at home after a busy week.

    • Tamra, I’m so happy you found my site and are enjoying it. What a blessing to hear!Messages like yours are such an encouragement to me — thanks for letting me know. And yes, after a busy week, there’s no place like home, right?

  18. I love going to the theater for a date, but that can be pricey, so the movies is a good substitute. And I like going out for a romantic dinner!

    • Welcome, Madeline! A night out at the theater sounds wonderful. We don’t have much opportunity for that where we live so we enjoy our movie nights out instead. Blessings to you!

  19. Like so many others here, it’s going out to see a movie, and dinner. My husband and I have been together 25 years now, and our very first date was a movie — Casablanca. He couldn’t believe I’d never seen it before. It was very sweet when we were able to take our teenage daughter to see a showing of it a couple of years ago.

  20. A fun date night for us can be anything from a night in of cooking and watching a movie to dinner and a show!

  21. My husband and I love to walk to Starbucks! We also enjoy getting out in the mountains together to hike or snowshoe.

  22. Michelle J. says

I want to take my hubby to the Murder Mystery Theater!

  23. I love this month mainly because of the weather. I believe it’s a little colder in Feb and love warming up to hot chocolate

  24. Not to rub it in, but where I live February is the beginning of spring. We like to walk together and see what is budding and blooming, both naturally and things that were planted. In towns, we enjoy gawking at and ogling the architecture and yards. Truly, we don’t get out much!
