Time for some summer fun with my blog. Since writing meaningful posts twice a week can be a challenge at times, I’m giving myself permission to kick back and just have some fun.
Actually, Mike Hyatt, CEO of Thomas Nelson, handed down that permission with his 8 Blog Tips from Tim Ferriss post. Tip #7 encourages bloggers to keep it fun, and I love it when I find advice that’s not too technologically challenging for me to follow :)
So today I give you my Top Ten Reasons (some might call them excuses) for No Real Post:
10. I’m a gal who’s always up for some fun.
9. Vacation is next week so might as well start it a few days early.
8. Counting on this not taking as much writing time as a real post.
7. Agent Rachelle Gardner did it so I figure I can, too (thanks for the idea, Rachelle!).
6. Waiting to see what news story the media will beat to death next.
5. Making time to avoid writing by arranging my paper clips and the like (writers will understand this!).
4. Marathon Man has finally crashed, and now I can’t think for his snoring.
3. Trying to lose 3 or 4 pounds so I can splurge on vacation — am dark chocolate and Peanut M&M deprived and too on edge to concentrate.
2. My competitive nature just wanted to see if I could hang with David Letterman.
1. Too busy celebrating — just found out about a Harry & David store near our vacation destination! Chocolate truffles, here I come!
So what would be on your Top Ten list for taking a break from your regular routine? Go ahead — have some fun! I give you permission :)
“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy…” Psalm 126:2a
p.s. See how I couldn’t resist giving you something meaningful from the Word of God? Can’t help it — it’s who I am! :)
Cheryl, I think it’s a “Real” post. You wouldn’t believe all the things I find to do to avoid doing some school work. Happy Vacation!
Love your picture!!! Great post. Everyone deserves a little R&R!
Have a great vacation and be safe!
THE TOP 10 THINGS THAT WOULD BE FUN FOR ME, COMPARED TO MY 2009 SUMMER SESSION TEACHING SCHEDULE
10. Having my nose hairs pulled out
one at a time with tweezers
9. Having each of my arms tied to
different horses, running in
opposite directions, because
they were spooked by fireworks
(For some reason, I’ve had
this dream)
8. Having to walk 10 or more
miles, carrying 50 pounds, with
a temperature of 110 degrees
Fahrenheit. ( Wait, I’ve done
this many times )
7. Having to change a child’s
dirty diaper after they’ve
been taking liquid antibiotics
for a few days (I”ll have to
admit, the number of our
children’s diapers that I have
changed, I could probably
count on one hand. I’m pretty
sure that I never had to deal
one possessing the remains of
an antibiotic)
6. Being a contestant on the
television show “SURVIVOR” and
eating something disgusting
5. Having a “Black Cat”firecracker
explode in your hand (I had
that happen when I was eight
years old)
4. Trying on new jeans in a
department store, as your mom
yells through the dressing room
door, “MAKE SURE THERE’S ENOUGH
ROOM IN THE CROTCH!” (am I the
only 9 yearold boy that has
had this ever happen to him?)
3. Having a doctor have to re-do
my colonoscopy, due to a video
malfunction
2. Speaking of colonscopies, and
who doesn’t? Drinking a
gallon of “Go-Lightly”, then
finding out that there’s
something that works just as
well, but only six ounces.
and the #1 THING THAT WOULD BE
FUN FOR ME COMPARED TO MY 2009
SUMMER SESSION TEACHING SCHEDULE
(This is for real, joking aside)
SCROLL DOWN
1. Vacationing with my wife, our
older daughter & her husband
along with our younger
daughter & her boyfriend.
Due to schedule conflicts,
all of this will not be
possible this summer. But,
whatever the LORD has in
store for me, I’m confident
that it will be JUST THE
RIGHT THING!
Marathon Man
GOOD JOB MARATHON MAN!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Don’s post! You two make a pair!
That was awesome! And loved the Marathon Man’s list too! Hilarious!!!
You are too cute Cheryl! I laughed at #6 as that’s something I would say.
Enjoy your vac dear sister.
What fun! I love you list! And truffles … mmm.
I love a good meme, since it feels like cheating but is still entertaining. :)
I play Sudoku when avoiding real work.
This is funny. Number 8 is so true! My “nothing” posts are always written way faster than my “relevant” posts. What’s worse: they seem to be WAY more popular. :)
Enjoy your vacation!
Cheryl,
Too funny! I’m with you on taking a break. It’s too hard to keep up with serious writing with all the distractions of summer. I loved Don’s list, LOL.
Enjoy your vacation and time spent with your lovely family.
For the record, I pick you over David Lettermen. Also, we have a Harry & David’s near us. When I went to “she speaks” last year, I took a cooler full of their chocolate. It made me very popular with the other attendees!
