9 Scriptures You Can Feature in Wedding Celebrations

Mother of the Bride, do you think your daughter and her beloved might like to use a scripture or two in special ways on their big day? If so, I have several to offer as suggestions.

First, though, consider the variety of ways that scripture might be incorporated. The minister will already have some scriptures he or she is planning to share during the ceremony, but if your sweet couple has a special verse or two they’d like included, I’m sure the minister would be happy to oblige.

Other ways to feature a scripture include using it on the printed program, on signs or plaques in the welcome area, on the cake and gift tables, or even used in some way in the centerpieces on the guest tables. Certain wedding favors even lend themselves to including a short message so a brief portion of scripture could be a possibility there as well. These are just a few ideas and others may come to mind when you all start thinking about it.

If the bride and groom need some ideas for specific verses, here are 9 scriptures they might want to consider (brief portions of them can be used instead of the entire verse if they so choose):

“‘Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.’” Ruth 1:16 NIV

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 HCSB

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” Psalm 126:3 NIV

“. . . love one another deeply, from the heart.” 1 Peter 1:22 NIV

“Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:8 NIV

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Ephesians 5:21 NIV

“. . . a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will be one.” Ephesians 5:31 GW

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 NIV

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12 NIV

Whether your daughter and her groom use these scriptures in their celebration or not, MOB, may they bless you and yours as you read them!

Wedding Cake Idea: A Crepe Cake!

(Photo and idea by Jasmin Fine at 1 Fine Cookie)

Mother of the Bride, is your daughter looking for a unique idea for her wedding cake? If she and her groom aren’t big fans of traditional wedding cake, today’s idea might be just what’s they’re looking for.

How about a three-tiered (or more!) crepe cake? Top it and layer it with fresh strawberries and a pastry cream with whipped cream folded in and you not only have the splash of color it needs but also a sweet and yummy flavor that will tickle your taste buds.

You can find out more about the cake pictured above by visiting Jasmin Fine’s 1 Fine Cookie site. She has even included a link to the recipe for the crepe cake as well as instructions on how to make it. Can’t beat that!

Check with your girl, MOB, and see if a crepe cake might be the cake of her dreams. And if she doesn’t think it’s quite what she has in mind, you might think of doing one for her bridal shower. Bet it would be a hit!

Pre-Ceremony Wedding Day Prayer Idea: The Mother of the Bride Prays for the Bride

Mother of the Bride, before your precious daughter says I do on her wedding day, why not send her off into her next stage of life with a prayer? What could be more meaningful than a prayer falling from the lips of the one who has loved her, watched over her, taught her, and encouraged her from the moment she was born? Yes, dear MOB, you are that treasured. Your prayer will bless her in a way that no one else’s can.

On the big day, after your little-girl-turned-bride is all dressed and waiting with her bridesmaids for the appointed time to get into place, have everyone get in a circle and hold hands while you pray for your darling daughter and the love of her life.

You may want to give your prayer some thought ahead of time and make mental note of the things you want to mention so you won’t forget something important to you. After all, your brain may be on overload by the time you reach go-time. Or on the other hand, you may prefer to let it all come naturally in the moment from the overflow of your heart. Do what works best for you. There is no right or wrong way.

One thing is certain—your prayer asking for God’s blessing and protection and for encouraging their total, sold-out commitment to each other and to God will undergird your sweet girl with strength and love and send her off into her new life with the complete support and blessing of her mom. What better gift could be given? I only wish someone had suggested it to me when my girls got married. We missed this special time together because I simply didn’t think about it. But you don’t have to miss it, Mother of the Bride. Now you’ve heard the idea!

So MOB, gift your daughter—and yourself—with this once in a lifetime moment and memory. And rest assured that God will use your send-off prayer in mighty and wonderful ways!

Elegant Mini Cakes Wedding Cake Idea

Mother of the Bride, everyone tends to get excited when it’s time to talk wedding cakes. Whether they’re on the team planning the wedding or just one of the guests on the big day itself, everyone looks forward to seeing—and eating—the cake. After all, it’s the crowning touch at the party so I hope you and your daughter have tons of fun considering all the options—and tasting a few too!

One wedding cake option that presents a slight twist on the popular cupcake wedding cake is the mini cakes wedding cake. These mini cakes are completely frosted and can be detailed in design or feature a simple design instead. One style is pictured above and another below.

If this idea appeals to your daughter and her beloved, they’ll still need to decide on the exact style they want as well as the cake flavors they want to include. Of course the more detailed and time intensive the design, the more the baker may charge for the cake. As with all wedding cakes, he or she will give you a price estimate after you tell her exactly what you want. Then you all can go from there in making the final decision.

So MOB, when it’s time to talk cake, don’t forget the mini cakes wedding cake idea. Who knows, it may be the crowning touch to the party that tickles your girl’s wedding cake fancy!

Preprinted Labels For Use At Bridal Fairs

Mother of the Bride, today I have a tip to pass along to your darling daughter turned bride-to-be. And the sooner you pass it along the better. Why? She needs this tip before attending bridal fairs during the early stages of planning.

When your daughter goes to bridal fairs and wedding expos—and hopefully you’ll get to go with her—she’ll be asked to write down her contact info time and again. Vendors will be offering giveaways and special offers and she will need to list her contact info to qualify for them. Of course, there will also be vendors she leaves her contact info with because of her strong interest in their services.

Instead of repeatedly handwriting her contact info, tell her to bring along a sheet of small pre-printed labels that list her name, address, phone number, and email address. She will be so glad she did—and so will the vendors. From personal experience when signing and selling my books at bridal fairs, many times I can’t make out some of the handwriting that is left for me to decipher.

I actually got this idea from a bride at one of the bridal fairs where I was a vendor. When she whipped out her contact info labels, I saw immediately what a huge help the labels were. I complimented her for being so well prepared and was super excited when she was the one who actually won the giveaway I offered that day. She deserved it for making life easier for both herself and us vendors alike!

So pass along this idea pronto, MOB. It will be one more time your girl thanks her lucky stars for having such a great mom!
