End of May Blogging Break

8-7-12 045

Mother of the Bride, since May always proves to be super busy, I’m going to close the month out with a little blogging break. Just a week-long breather before June starts bustin’ out all over. (If your daughter has a June wedding, good luck and hang in there—you’ll get your breather soon!)

So now with summer upon us, let me leave you with this sweet summer thought:

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky is by no means a waste of time.” John Lubbock, English banker, politician, scientist, and philanthropist,1834-1913

Here’s to watching some clouds this week, MOB—I’ll see you next Monday!

Good Week for a Blogging Break

Since May always proves to be super busy, I’m going to close it out this month with a little blogging break. Just a week-long breather before June starts bustin’ out all over. And no, I can’t believe it’s almost June!

With summer upon us, let me leave you with this sweet summer thought:

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky is by no means a waste of time.” John Lubbock, English banker, politician, scientist, and philanthropist,1834-1913

Here’s to watching some clouds this week—I’ll see you next Monday!

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.” Psalm 23:1-2-3a

A Simple Wedding Expense Tip

3367543296_1470ef5247_zMother of the Bride, if you’re like every other MOB I know, you’re constantly making decisions about how much to spend on different aspects of your daughter’s upcoming wedding.

Questions like is it okay to spend a little more than I wanted to for this pair of shoes and should we go with the less expensive veil pop up on a regular basis—and sometimes even play havoc with a good night’s rest. That’s understandable. Like any good mother of the bride, you’re always looking for ways to trim wedding expenses.

Here’s one simple guideline to use as you decide when it’s okay to spend a little more for one aspect of the wedding—attire: If it’s an item that you or the bride (or someone else in the wedding party) will keep wearing for a long time, go ahead and buy the more expensive option if you’d like. A better quality product will more than pay for itself if you’re able to get several years’ use out of it.

Shoes? If you’ll wear them for a long time, by all means get the better ones. The veil? Unless you have other daughters that might use it, that’s pretty much a one-day use. You can find gorgeous options at reasonable prices.

Apply the how long will we wear it guideline with each attire purchase decision, MOB, and your decision-making agony will be cut in half. I can’t promise a good night’s rest, though—too many other things can interfere with that! :)

Midweek Morsel: In Whom Does God Delight?

Do you ever forget that God delights in us, his children? If you’re like me, you may sometimes feel like God has to tolerate you in all of your weakness. But scripture tells us that he delights in us. What an amazing truth. May these verses help us remember!

“For the LORD takes delight in his people;” Psalm 149:4

“the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Psalm 147:11

“The LORD detests men of perverse heart but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.”  Proverbs 11:20

“The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.” Proverbs 12:22

“The LORD your God . .  . will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

Photo Idea: Bridesmaids Blow the Groom a Kiss!

DSC_6188

Mother of the Bride, add this “blowing a kiss to the groom” wedding shot to your list for the photographer pronto! It will end up being one of the cutest photos of the day. Photographic magic is bound to happen when your daughter’s bridesmaids are asked to show a little love to the groom.

As soon as the photographer asks the bridesmaids to blow the groom a kiss, he will start smiling and blushing—or turn into a Romeo on the spot and eat up the attention like a glowing Adonis. Either way, the results will be wedding-photo gold.

So, MOB, share this idea with the photographer. He can set it up like the shot above our son-in-law Jake or he can get creative and change it up any number of ways. As long as there’s kissing involved, it will be fun, right?  :)
